CityROCK Johannesburg is celebrating 10 years with a psych-filled climbing festival like no other!
This year we’re running it rock rally-style: everyone gets a handicap, the field is level, and it’s all about who climbs the most. That means the glory (and the cash 💸) could go to the casual crushers, young guns, veterans, or rising stars.
And don’t worry, our Mad Strong senders still get their spotlight with a boulder + lead showdown and a shiny new pair of La Sportiva shoes up for grabs.

How it Works
Get ready for a Climbing Showdown like no other!
Join us for an action-packed competition-style climbing event that will test your strength, skill, and psyche!
How it works: There is a qualifying round and then a MEGA show down for our MAD STRONG climbers.
Rocktober Comp/Mad Strong Qualification
- Choose your discipline: Lead/Top Rope and/or Boulder
- Rounds: 9am–11am | 11am–1pm
- 10 x Lead/Top Rope routes & 40 x Boulder problems
- Climb your heart out, then swap disciplines if you are competing in Lead/Top rope AND boulder! Back-to-back climbing….GO!
MEGA Showdown (Finals Top 6 Male & Female – Mad Strong, +2 Wild card entries per gender)
- Must have competed in Qualifiers
- Lead Routes (1 male / 1 female)
- Boulder Problems – session style, 15 minutes each (3 male / 3 female)
- Plus: Kilter Board Showdown – 2 final problems (1 male / 1 female)
So join us for all-day psyche with the best beats, lekker refuel at the Feed Me Café – even spectators can enjoy the day with our spectator comps. Bonus point hunt by completing our spectator comps to ensure you get that top spot.
